Vehicle Crime Awareness - Crime Prevention

Hillingdon Neighbourhood Watch has noted a number of cases of thefts from motor vehicles on driveways over the past 48hrs. Where these have taken place, the thieves have targeted a wide area overnight for a number of hours.

How can you help?

The first step is to make sure that you always lock your vehicle when leaving it - and fit a steering lock as well to deter those who may want to take the vehicle itself.

Don't leave items on display in your vehicle - if you leave it on show, expect it to go.

If you look out of your window at night and see someone interfering with your vehicle then call the police on 999 - crime in progress.

If you have CCTV or a video doorbell and it shows that someone has for example tried your car door handle in the night then please REPORT IT on 101 or online (see the www.hillingdonnhw.co.uk home page).

It's extremely important that all crime is reported, and that the existence of any CCTV imagery is noted on the crime report. The sum total of reports is essential to determine the likely path the criminals took on their journey, and hence where they may have started out from, perhaps parking a vehicle there in sight of a CCTV camera.

In essence there are many ways in which the accumulation of reports can lead to arrests when all of that information is combined, and this relies on all of us reporting crimes when they happen.

Remember that you can now load the police.uk app to your mobile device and use it to report crime:
